Not so very long ago there was a rather unique bar in Leicester called The Vaults.

In the space of seven years and 21 days they listed a total of 2945 different ales.

(Yes, the list is available, although SIX are missing)

Sadly, in September 2003, this haven for Real Ale lovers, and twice CAMRA Pub of the Year, had to close.

The manager at the time, Paul Summers, along with another of The Vaults staff, Jude Crighton, vowed to re-house The Vaults Family.

Premises were sourced, handily only 200 metres from "The Old Vaults" as it had now become known.

A former record breaking wine bar, known then as Vin Quatre, had been closed for some time when the keys were obtained.

Despite needing a full cellar re-fit, including 12 hand pumps, plus a full re-decoration, Out of the Vaults was ready to open in just 15 days. The turn out of friends, regulars, and some rather surprising volunteers was quite amazing.

A few months after opening Jude and her partner Mick Leadbetter, decided to look for a new challenge of their own. They found one in the shape of the Three Tuns in Bishops Castle, Shropshire, a county very close to Jude's heart.

At this point Daksha Patel appeared from the wings to take Jude's place and keep Paul in check. Her smiling face is often seen behind the bar or throwing barrels down the hatch into the cellar (now one of her favourite pastimes!)

Daksha and Paul look forward to seeing you in Out of the Vaults.
